![]() Direct transfer through itunes is possible, but obviously doing it wirelessly is the way to go.įinally, the app has support for any media type i've thrown at it includeding any form of AVI wrapped package you can imagine, MKV, WMV, and subtitle support as well (though remember this will only work if you view the video through the samba interface and NOT the DNLA interface as subtitle files are not supported by DNLA.Code and instructions on how to get SB to control VLC. ![]() One of the beauties of this app is that it also allows you to copy the files directly to your device via the wireless network connection if you are accessing the files through a SAMBA share, so you don't have to plug in, load up itunes and manually copy it over (under apps in your ipad settings on itunes). It uses authentication for the SAMBA folders (username/password) so if you wanted some password protection on some files on your network, rather than all open for everyone (as is the case with DNLA) this works too. Using an ipad 2 or iphone4, you can view your network shares (button at the bottom that looks like a terminal labled with SMB) it will show you both DNLA servers on the network and SAMBA shared folders. There are several different versions, the one labled as "buzz player classic" is only for older Iphones and ipods, and not recomended for an Ipad 2. The app that I ended up using and keeping for both the Ipad2 and Iphone4 was called "Buzz player" . the unsuccessful apps included Cineplayer and the goodplayer, and VNC. I tried several (thank goodness they were all about a $1 a peice) before I found one that did the trick. It really turns out that very few apps for the iphone or ipad deal well with either a DNLA server or SAMBA file server to fetch media files. I had similar problems with my Bufallo NAS (Pro-Duo) running the latest firmware. There is a much better app to use on the ipad that will solve alot of your problems: Buzz player.
